The Gala Royal Parade
The Gala Royal Parade starts at the Murray Arms Hotel in Ann Street (at the clock tower), and you're most welcome to join the King and Queen on their walk to Garries Park. This year's King is Martin Swan and the Queen is Olivia Dickie. They are attended by Page Alexander Redden and Attendant Lexa Baty. Our piper will lead the procession.

The Official Opening of Gala 2024 including Crowning of the Gala King and Queen. For your convenience, you should bring your own table and chairs to the park for the afternoon.

Songs of Praise in the Garden
Ecumenical Songs of Praise with Creetown Silver Band in the garden adjacent to the Episcopal church / Ship Inn. If the weather is wet, we'll be in the Community Centre across the road.

Scottish Night
An evening of traditional Scottish entertainment with songs, dances and poems in the Faed Gallery at the Mill on the Fleet. Entry £5, payable at the door (cash only for this event, please).

Historical Town Walk
We have our excellent Historical Walk around Gatehouse each weekday with Mrs Margaret Wright. Please meet at the Williamson & Henry 'chalet' in the main car park. If wet, please assemble at the main entrance to the Mill on the Fleet opposite the big wheel. The walk lasts just over an hour.

Open Garden Afternoon
The Open Garden Afternoon at 16 High Street is in aid of Gala funds and is by kind courtesy of Ms Mary Clear. This is a musical afternoon with plants and jams for sale. The afternoon should end around 4pm.

Family Cycle Ride and picnic
Our Family cycle ride and (bring your own) picnic is to Sandgreen. Please meet at the Wheels of Fleet (in the MIll grounds) for a pre-ride cycle check at 1pm.

Adults' doubles tennis tournament
Our adults' doubles tennis tournament at the tennis court has a 'start time' of 5pm. However, that allows time for the draw for partners and the tournament itself starts at 5.30pm. Entry £2.

Kirsty's Car Treasure Hunt
Kirsty's Car Treasure Hunt is for the 'Bobby Caig trophy'. Entrants should meet at the Community Centre. £5 per car entry. Refreshments will be available at this event, and are provided by the volunteers from Macmillan Cancer Research.

6:30 pmStart at the Community Centre
Children's Fun Run
This, always well-supported, event starts at the Community Centre in Dromore Road. The route heads towards Fleet Street, turning left into the High Street and reaching as far as the War Memorial, and then back by the same route to the Community Centre.
There are two entry groups:
a): Primary School-age pupils, and
b): Secondary School up to the 16th birthday.
Entry is free - and it's for FUN only! Every runner receives a medal.

'Roon the Watter' Fun Run
'Roon the Watter' is a 6 mile FUN RUN starting and finishing at the Community Centre in Dromore Road. Entry is free (although donations - £5 suggested - will be much appreciated to defray expenses). There is no registration and no numbers or recorded times. It is purely for fun!
All runners will receive a medal. 1st male and 1st female will also receive a trophy.

Mini-forage at St. Mary's
This mini-forage in and around St. Mary's Church in Dromore Road is run by Tamara, founder of Plant Listening. She is a researcher of traditional foraging and tracking techniques. Join us for a brief introduction as to how these ancient skills can nourish mind, body and soul in the gardens at St. Mary's. Refreshments will be provided. To register for a place, please email:

'Fox and Rabbit' fun golf
The 'Fox and Rabbit' fun golf at the course on Laurieston road (next to the tennis court) is always a popular event. Entrants need to be in pairs. The idea is that one player is a 'novice' (the rabbit) and the other, a more experienced played, is the fox, who gives chase round the course. Tel 01557 814566 for details.

The Grand Torchlight Procession
After torches are lit in front of the Community Centre on Dromore Road, the Procession moves off towards the High Street, turns left and travels the length of the High Street to the clock tower, from where it turns into Ann Street, at the top of which it enters Garries Park. Torches are on sale in various shops during gala week (£3.50each or 3 for £10).
The procession includes two pipe bands.
Please take time beforehand to read the safety guidance in the programme (paper) booklet. We want a safe evening for everyone!

Musical Concert in the MIll
Musical Concert at the Mill. Featured in BBC Music Magazine's 'Rising Star' column, Aileen Sweeney is a multi award-winning composer, arranger, accordionist and podcaster from Glasgow who studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Her music is rooted in the traditional folk music of her childhood, playing the accordion, and is often influenced by her interests in fields, cosmology, nature and folklore alongside an admiration for many different genres of music.. Entry is free for those under 25 and carers providing support. Other tickets £10 at the door.

This local walk lasts about two-and-a-half hours. Meet at the car park at 5.45 with stout footwear. Indeed, hill-walking attire is essential. See posters for information. Donations to gala funds will be most welcome.

This new competition, provided and supported by the Cally Palace Hotel, runs throughout the day. There are prizes for the best score front 9, back 9 and best dressed. Prizes include 4 golf ball vouchers, afternoon tea vouchers and overnight stay vouchers.

Cally Gardens Open Day
By courtesy, once again, of Kevin Hughes, this event is open until 4pm. To reach the gardens, entry is by the main Cally Palace driveway. Full directions are provided in the separate (paper) programme. A nominal entrance fee is in aid of gala funds.

Assembly and judging of decorated vehicles, pedestrians etc
One of the highlights of our Gala Week is today's Grand Parade. All decorated vehicles (floats) - and horses - should please assemble in Dromore Road and all pedestrians and bicycle entries should gather in the school car park in good time for judging. The Parade itself moves off at 1.15pm after the judging.

Gala Day Afternoon of Entertainment
After the Grand Parade has reached Garries Park, and prize-winner results have been announced, we present an afternoon of entertainment with much to interest and occupy you all. Over the course of the afternoon, in addition to the numerous activity stalls on offer, there are food outlets and a licensed bar. We also have a variety of performers, a bike agility course with the Galloway Hillbillies and Wheels of Fleet, side-shows, games and, of course, the tug-of-war competitions, hosted by Tam Wilson.
The Grand Raffle Prize Draw winning numbers and names will be announced at the end of the afternoon, around 4pm.

Duck Race & afternoon of musical entertainment
Enjoy a leisurely afternoon to the accompaniment of local musicians in the gardens. Please note that, although the afternoon 'starts' at 1pm, the actual timing of the duck race is down to the tides, and as such it is difficult for us to be specific. Nevertheless, we're sure you'll enjoy your afternoon.

5:45 pmClock Tower in the High Street
Riding of the Marches Evening Ride-Out
All participants in the Riding of the Marches should please assemble at the Clock Tower at 5.45 for a 6pm start. The Ride commences with the presentation of the Town Banner by the Provost to the Riders, who then take it on a tour of the town boundaries. At the end of the event, a flag-waving ceremony takes place back in Ann Street to mark the safe return of the Banner. For further information, please phone 07721 646517.
